MISSION DOLORES AND KAPPA SAKE HOUSE ON JANUARY 28

On Friday we went to taste some beers at Mission Dolores on 4th Ave and Carroll. They had plenty tap beers to choose from…after some hard thinking…jaja… we decided to start with Nebraska Hop God IPA and Kelso Satisfaction.[br]
[br]
Nebraska Hop God IPA is a crossbreed of a Belgian Triple and a West Coast IPA. Its spiciness, tropical fruit and citrus bitterness really stand out and creates a beautiful experience is your palate. Kelso satisfaction is an English bitter, with a smell featuring fresh hop and light grainy malt.[br]
[br]
The second round was a Kelso chocolate Lager and a Green flash Imperial IPA.[br]
[br]
Kelso choclate lager is a Schwarzbier (black beer in German). Unlike other dark beers, like porters or stouts, they are not overly bitter with burnt and roasted malt characteristics that the others tend to depend on. Instead, hops are used for a good portion of the bitterness. Very refreshing and soul lifting beers, they also make a great alternative for the Winter.[br]

Green flash Imperial IPA is super-hoppy, high gravity, yet highly quaffable ale. This Imperial IPA is created in this new tradition with intense hop flavors and aromas from a unique blend of Summit and Nugget hops.[br]

After hours to stop by our favorite restaurant in Park Slope, the delightful Kappa Sake House, to try to highly recommend Japanese Fried Chicken. We also had Kappa Salad (Crunchy cucumber & crab salad with original dressing), spicy salmon roll (Fresh salmon tartar with our original spicy mayonnaise), celery sticks with spicy mayonnaise. [br]

We tasted 2 types of sake, Hakkaisan Tokubetsu Junmai, In Japanese tokubetsu means “special” and Hakkaisan Tokubestu Junmai is special in many ways. The signature ingredient of this sake is the fine local water, coming from melting snow and filtered by Mount Hakkai. The  purity of this naturally soft water is what gives Hakkaisan Tokubetsu Junmai its very special smooth taste and flavor. This Tokubetsu Junmai has a very clean and dry body, it pairs well with not only sushi and sashimi but also lightly oily dishes such as tempura. At the end of the night we tasted Wakatake Onikoroshi Sake Junmain Daigingo. A delicious sake with silky texture and tastings notes of Papaya, pineapple and roasted nuts. [br]
