TURKEY MEATBALLS, COLESLAW AND PEACH KUCHEN ON SUNDAY JULY 12
Claudia got these nice peaches in the supermarket today and decided to try out a kuchen recipe based one that her mom used to make . she made a smaller version. two little tartalletes instead or a regular 9″ pie. the fresh peach slices lay on a layer of yolk and vanilla custard in a graham cracker crust. it tasted very good, but needs a little tweaking to get it right, I guess. we’ll try it again soon.
For dinner, we made some oven baked turkey meatballs sided with a ginger-peanut-garlic dipping sauce and a coleslaw recipe that i found from a “cooks illustrated” issue. The chopped cabbage was soaked in a salt water brine for a while and the dressing had no mayonnaise or cream. the slaw, with chopped red peppers and shredded carrots was very good, but the turkey balls, even with the sauce, were bland and hardly had any taste. We didn’t like them very much but I would try the recipe again some time and make some adjustments and improvements. After all, is things that don’t work or don’t come out right, what we learn the most from.
